Bobby Johns Bearheart, who was designated as a Master Folk Artist by the Florida FolkLife Division of Cultural Affairs, is a notable example of this. He was the first Creek Indian to receive this award. In addition to his many contributions to the arts, he was an educator, guest speaker and mentor. In 1990, he and his tribe founded the Perdido Bay Tribe of Southeastern Lower Muscogee Creek Indians.
